About Florence Ceramics Company

Florence Ceramics Co. was founded in 1942 by Mrs. Florence Ward after she was persuaded to turn her artistic efforts to commercial production. That there has, and continues to be, an enthusiastic reception for her designs is testified by the fact that the firm, which originally began production in a garage, has expanded three times and found it necessary to move to new locations twice in the relative few years of its existence.

In 1949 the firm moved into its present modern building and furnished it with the latest equipment, including a continuous tunnel kiln. This factory is considered to be one of the finest artware plants in California.

Mrs. Florence Ward, who is the sole designer of the figurines manufactured by the firm, has become accepted throughout the land as a leader in creating fine figurines. Besides being continuously active in creating new pieces — many of which are decidedly a contribution to American art — Mrs. Ward is active in supervising the work done by the many decorators employed by the firm in order to assure herself that each piece will be as fine as the original when it leaves the factory.

The ware produced by the factory is all of the same body which is semi-porcelain in nature with the glazes being cured with the body at a high temperature. Strict control is kept of all phases of production and continuous research is conducted in order that the ware will be technically of the highest quality.

Products other than figurines manufactured by the plant include picture frames, bowls, and various accessories, all of which are of the same high quality and styled to meet the present-day fashioned requirements. The firm’s policy in keeping production only pieces that prove to be in demand by the public assures the retailer of a line that he will be successful in merchandising.
